The stove is the focal point of most kitchens, but almost equally vital is what happens to be right next to it or just above it: the kitchen exhaust fan. Cooking naturally gives off plenty of smoke and fumes even without any heat-related accidents. A poor-quality fan can, in time, result in damage to the surrounding structure as well as health issues due to an inadequately cleansed breathing atmosphere. Have you ever thought to yourself that you don’t need to breathe better? No? That’s why you need good kitchen exhaust fans, if you don’t have them already.

Fans that simply redirect the bad air up into the rest of the building will result in superficial structural damage to the walls and ceilings. Furthermore, it can even present a fire risk by allowing grease to build up to dangerous levels. To prevent these things from happening, you need to buy kitchen exhaust fan products of high quality that redirect the bad air harmlessly outside, rather than dispersing it indoors to a wider area. If you run a restaurant or other business involving cooking, you’ll definitely want to invest in a commercial kitchen exhaust fan. Commercial kitchen exhaust fans are much more powerful and efficient than their non-commercial brethren, and allow you and your chefs to get the most out of your kitchen while minimizing fire hazard potential.

But what the best kitchen exhaust fan is really depends on who you are and what you use your kitchen for. If you’re just someone who likes to cook at home, you probably don’t need to spring for the admittedly more expensive commercial fan models. Instead, you can find something more suited to your smaller-scale cooking needs by spending anywhere from eighty to a few hundred dollars. The more expensive models are obviously more powerful and efficient, but even the cheapest exhaust fans on sale can be shockingly effective at clearing bad air if you’ve become used to going without them. In addition, it’s worth considering that commercial fans, besides their other benefits, are generally quieter in operation than non-commercial fans. This can be a dealbreaker that makes it worth spending a little extra, if you’re easily irritated by background noise.

When you shop, it’s worth looking at many different stores to find the best deals, as you can find these exhaust fans in a variety of store sections, from kitchen to general home furniture to electronics (for the more advanced types). Taking into account online purchasing options is also always a good idea, since online stores will often offer great base prices on products like fans. The catch is that they will sometimes try to make their profit on excessive shipping fees, so keep a very close eye on the shipping fee tally before you click that last order button.

As a final note, don’t discount the size of a fan. In general, a larger fan will circulate air better than a smaller one. The smaller fans are perfectly adequate for ordinary casual use: cooking on a stovetop with one or two burners at a time. For more hectic cooking you’ll want to invest in something larger to keep the atmosphere at perfect levels of cleanliness.

Kitchen fans are essential to keep your environment clean and avoid air congestion. Cooking releases smoke, grease and moisture that harm your wall paint and also produce an unhealthy atmosphere. Therefore, it’s recommended that you buy a good kitchen fan as you can find a variety of types that come in almost every range. No matter if your building a new house or simply renovating your old restaurant, you need to carefully select the right kitchen fan that fulfills your needs.

The most basic type of kitchen exhaust fans isn’t very effective and mostly come with your kitchen range. They function only by pulling the air upwards and not completely removing it from your surroundings. The air purified and neither is the smell removed. Such an exhaust fan may give you temporary relief but will still be a danger to your health and the nearby walls. It is important to point out here that your kitchen fan should never open up to your attic as it can be extremely dangerous. Not only does it suck air into your attic but it can also cause major fires by pulling your kitchen fire into the attic.

Kitchen fans can be further classified. These can be classified as wall mounted or ceiling mounted but technically, they can also be referred as overhead exhaust fans and downdraft fans. If you compare the both, downdraft fans are simpler to clean but overhead fans are easier to install, more effective in air purification and very well suited for smaller spaces.

Hood extractor fans are set immediately above the stove and are classified as canopy fans. They usually suck air upwards to remove air from space or even sometimes filter it. If you are looking for filtration of air and have a space problem that doesn’t allow you to use an exterior wall, then freestanding cooker fans are ideal as they have a charcoal filter that recycles air. These come in a variety of prices and sizes.

Another option is a house wide exhaust system that will clear your entire home of smell and contaminated air. It works as a home vacuum cleaner and is recommended if you do a lot of frying. However, this is pretty costly so unless you really need it, you should try cheaper options as given above.

Commercial grade exhaust fans are another option that may be pricier but they are also more effective in removing smoke and smell than anything else. These can now also be installed at your home and it is recommended that you go for a commercial grade exhaust fan in your kitchen than a house wide exhaust system.

The market has a great variety of kitchen extractor fans to suit almost any budget. If you are building a new house and have already spent a lot in construction, don’t worry about spending on fitting and fixtures while thinking about your extractor fan as you can find great variety at reasonable prices. Just drop by at any home improvement store or simply search a catalog for your extractor fan and you are bound to find something that suits your space, requirement and budget. If you are willing to spend more to get the top quality product, you can also order to get a customized extractor fan to suit your needs.

If you just bought a house with a kitchen range which has a basic extractor fan, it is recommended that you invest in a new one. It is essential to keep your ambiance clean to avoid health problems as the grease, fumes and moisture released from your cooking can be hazardous to your lungs and only a good extractor fan can give you purified uncontaminated air. Kitchen extractor fans have two basic classifications, one being a wall mounted extractor fan and the other a ceiling extractor fan. Wall mounted extractor fans are much easier to clean than ceiling ones however ceiling fans are ideal for cramped space and much more effective. Ceiling fans are also easier to install and remove. These usually do not have much of a price difference as the lowest quality starts from almost the same range, though they do differ in prices as the quality improves.

A further classification brings you to hood extractor fans that are set right above your stove and are effective in immediately removing unhealthy smoke. These come in various categories that can either remove air by exiting it from your home or simply recycling it. Hood extractor fans also come with filters and these ones are more expensive. Range fans are another category that removes air quite efficiently; however they use the traditional home chimney. So if your restyling your home and have space issues in adjusting your stove below a chimney or you live in a flat that doesn’t have one, you shouldn’t go for a range fan but rather opt for a freestanding cooker fan that doesn’t even require an exterior wall but comes with a built in charcoal filter to ensure air purification. Freestanding cooker fans are more expensive than a range fan.

Kitchen extractor fans are very important to keep your air clean and avoid damage to not only your kitchen walls but also your health as smoke, grease and fumes released from your cooking can cause serious lung problems. All those people who hate to repaint their kitchen walls again and again know the importance of a good kitchen extractor fan. However, as important as it is to have the right extractor fan, what is equally important is proper installation.

To get the premium results of your extractor fan and the money invested in it, correct installation is a must. Not only does it affect the quality of performance, but also the amount of air that is being removed or filtered. For example, a kitchen extractor fan that opens to an attic is extremely dangerous, as it not only transfers grease to your attic, destroying the walls and air space, but can also cause major disasters like house fires as it can transfer your basic stove fire and suck it up to the attic. Thus, it is extremely important that you know where to install your extractor fan.

As for installing a kitchen extractor fan yourself, it is recommended that you do not do it yourself unless you have basic knowledge of wiring and electricity. The tools that you will need, will other than your fan will include a drywall saw, circuit box, electricians tape, a few wire caps, a screwdriver, a drill and most probably, a ladder.

Firstly, you`ll need to mark the installation area for the kitchen extractor fan. You will need to buy housing for the extractor fan and be sure to find one that fits the size of your fan. You could simply ask your extractor fans manufacturer for the right size and type. Secondly, you will need to create a hole for the housing box with the drywall saw, exposing the wires that are available near your fan, that you will need to power and turn on or off for the fan. Next, you`ll set the housing box where needed and attach the extractor fan with the wiring. Secure the wiring by capping the ends with electricians tape and wire caps before turning on the circuit breaker and testing your fan switch. You can find details in a large number of do it yourself websites and even the fan box, however, it is advised that you leave this to a professional or hire help from the extractor fan company.

Zephyr range hoods have a strong brand loyalty as they have been satisfying customers and redesigning their products to suit customer needs since ages. Zephyr promises to provide its customers with premium quality at the most affordable prices. Zephyr range hoods have four basic categories that are island or ceiling mounted, wall-mounted, under cabinet and ductless.

Island/Ceiling Mounted Zephyr Range Hoods: These range hoods are usually mounted on the room and hang down to reach just a few lengths above your stove. They are ideal if you want to give your big kitchen some definition as they look attractive and spectacular. However, they aren’t suitable for smaller kitchens as you cannot have extra cabinets or shelving in the area where you install your island range hoods. Zephyr Trapeze island range hood is ideal for contemporary kitchens and their other ranges include Milano and Torino.

Wall Mounted Zephyr range hoods: This type of range hood is mounted on the wall above your kitchen stove. Although these can also look great and become a central element of your kitchen, they take up the space above your range that could otherwise be used for kitchen cabinets. Under cabinet model is recommended if you’re short on space but if you have a big kitchen, wall mounted range hoods can be the perfect pick. Wall mounted zephyr range hoods stand out due to their theme. They are names Savona, Okeanito and Venezia and are names after places in Europe. It’s not just the name that’s European but so is there theme that is reflected in their styling. These are ideal for colonial and rustic styled kitchens.

Under Cabinet Zephyr Range Hoods: This kitchen range hood type is mounted under your kitchen stove and is ideal if you’re short on space. Not only does it take up the space that’s usually not used but it allows you to gain more storage and still give you the proper ventilation your kitchen needs. It’s ideal for apartments or condos but obviously, look less fancy than the above two options. Famous Zephyr models include the Pyramid, Cyclone and Tempest.

Ductless Zephyr Range Hoods: These range hoods are made to suit customers who can’t afford one of the above choices as they suit someone whose budget is low or their home layout doesn’t allow the installation of a ducted range hood. These ranges don’t take the smell out of your kitchen but simply circulate the air, making open windows essential while cooking.

Modern kitchens are much more advanced than the ordinary and conventional kitchens. The aim of modern kitchens is to give the heart of the house, which is the kitchen, an orderly look by organizing the maximum kitchen convenience in as little space as possible and ensure that kitchen items all have an organized place.

A contemporary kitchen adds warmth, elegance and charisma to the home. It is designed in such a way that it offers a clean ambience, additional space, comfort and ease of use, which a requisite of any modern home.

Traditional kitchen cabinets are made of wood whereas the modern kitchen cabinets tend to be made of graphite, metal, plastic and glass. They are comparatively better as they occupy less space and offer more storage capacity. They look more compact and stylish as well. The kitchen cabinets are used for storing utensils, pots and pans and other containers and kitchen tools.

There are different designs, patterns and colors of cabinets available depending on the budget and requirements. It is usually perceived that large cabinets are more spacious and have more capacity to hold kitchen items, which is not really true. The modern cabinets come in small to medium sizes and more in number. They are designed in a way that all kitchen devices can fit in easily in a compact manner.

The glass cabinets are considered to be more trendy and classy. They usually come in sliding form and with removable racks which offers convenience to the home owners. The wooden cabinets are still preferred in their natural hues. However, cabinets painted in bright and sober colors, which go with the wall color and décor look great.

There are various modern kitchens designs which are gaining popularity among the home owners who want their kitchen to complement the beauty of the home. The Scandinavian style of modern kitchen requires the cabinets, countertops, table, chairs and sink made of stainless steel or wood, usually painted in natural or dull white color. In the modern Italian design of kitchens, the marble or graphite countertops and cabinets are preferred over steel and wood. The countertops and kitchen hoods usually come in island or curved style. The dining table is usually decorated with flowers baskets and walls with mirror or ceramic work. The main idea is to make the kitchen look beautiful and elegant from every angle.

Luxurious kitchens can be achieved with the help of interior designers, who will likely be charging a fee of more than US$1000.

A cooker hood filter is a necessary part of a kitchen hood as it removes the grease and other particles from the air in the kitchen. The kitchen hood comes with two types of systems for venting the smoke, vapors, heat and gases like carbon monoxide which are build up as a result of combustion out from the kitchen and supply it with filtered or fresh air.

In the ductal system, there are exhaust fans installed inside the duct of the cooker hood, which suck in air and moisture from the cooking area of the kitchen and force it out of the house into the open air.

In contrast, in the recirculation system, there are filters installed inside the hood which perform the function of gathering and blocking vapors, oil, grease, smoke and fumes arising from the cooking area. When all the impurities from the kitchen air are blocked, the filtered air is released back into the kitchen. It is really important that the cooker hood filter is of good quality otherwise traces of impurities and moisture will be sent back into the kitchen which can be harmful for the health of the cooks.

The most efficient types of cooker hood filters include carbon, grease and charcoal filters. The cooker hood grease filter come in the form of aluminum and metal wires arranged in the form of a mesh. The metal mesh serves to trap grease, oil, smoke, moisture and other impurities from the kitchen air and then the carbon or charcoal filters allow clean air to pass through it, leaving the impurities to stay behind on the mesh. The charcoal filters are much powerful than the carbon filters.

One of the issues which arise with the filters for cooker hoods is that after a month or two the filters become clogged with debris and their capability to filter kitchen air is inhibited. This means that the kitchen hood filters requires cleaning or replacement. The filters can be easily cleaned by soaking them in a tub containing detergent dissolved in warm water for few hours. Then a brush or soft cloth is rubbed on the metal mesh. As a result, the debris comes off easily, leaving the mesh clean and shining. After a few washes, the existing filters should be replaced with new ones as regular cleaning slows down the filtering ability.

The kitchen hood filters can be purchased from any kitchen accessories store or from Amazon on the Internet. The filters are inexpensive and fall below the price of US$20.

Whether it is a residential or a commercial kitchen, the installation of a cooker hood is of crucial importance as it adds functionality and enhances the look of the cooking area. A cooker hood, known with its alternative names like kitchen hood, kitchen exhaust hood, extractor hood and range hood—is a device which is fixed above the cooking area and functions to remove unpleasant odors, harmful gases, smoke and grease from the kitchen which arises while cooking. As a result, the kitchen air is cleaned of any particulate materials that may affect breathing.

The kitchen hood is of two types—a ductless or recirculation system and a ventilation system. In the former, the contaminated air arising from cooking passes through a filter which blocks all the impurities and sends out clean air which is deposited into the kitchen again. The cooker hood filter is usually in the form of metal mesh. In contrast, the recirculation hood comes with a system of exhaust fans which gathers all the vapors, grease and smoke from the cooking area and expels it outside the property into the open air. The range hoods are as long and wide as the stove so that the air arising from cooking pans can be easily inhaled in by the filters and exhaust fans.

The exhaust fans are further divided into axial and centrifugal fans. The fans are installed in the duct which connects the hood with the chimney. The axial fans are circular in shape, much like the ceiling fans and popularly used in kitchen hoods whereas, the centrifugal fans are in the form of a barrel. Unlike the axial fans, the centrifugal fans are expensive, and they work fast to remove the mal air out of the kitchen without giving rise to any mechanical noise.

The cooker hoods can be installed in various styles, depending upon the position of the stove. It is either present in the center of the kitchen right above the kitchen island oven or attached to the wall and even in the sliding, angular and visible form in case the oven is fixed to the wall. The right positioning of the range hood can change the look of the entire kitchen.

The range hood consists of small halogen or incandescent lights which enable the cooks to see what is being cooked in the pans. It offers great convenience as the lights are close to the stove and without any blockage falls directly on the cooking food. The automatic timer is an important feature after lighting, which activates the exhaust fans and cooker hood filters when needed and turns off when the needle of the air meters shows no presence of marred air.

The kitchen hoods come in different materials but stainless steel and wooden hoods are preferred as they match with the décor and electrical appliances placed on the kitchen counters. A number of kitchen accessories manufacturers are producing quality range hoods. The notable names include Broan, Kobe, Vent-A-Hood, Elicia, Futuro Futuro and Neff cooker hoods.
