A kitchen ventilation system, commonly known as a kitchen hood, is very important to make your kitchen cleaner and more hygenic. It helps all the moisture, heat and grease to be sucked out of your kitchen that gathers while you cook. Kitchen ventilation systems come in a variety of styles and sizes. You can choose a ventilation system you prefer and also that suits your kitchen décor.
There are basically two types of kitchen hoods, the vented ones or the non-vented ones. Mostly vented exhausts are preferred over their non-vented counterparts. The process to install a kitchen ventilation system i.e. a vented one is quite simple. Follow the procedure below and before you begin check if you wish to have a wall venting or a roof venting which depends on the placement of your cooking range and area.
Things required for installation:
- Range vent hood
- Screw driver
- hammer
- drilling gun
- tape
- cable clamps
- wire nuts
- insulating pliers
- pencil
- measuring tape
- goggles and gloves
After gathering all the above mentioned materials essential for installation of a kitchen hood follow this procedure step by step.
- Trace the place where the duct is to be installed. Now take away the fans and filters from the ventilator. Properly place the hood at the desired location to mark the area. When marking is done drill the whole area to make a hole for ventilation.
- Now the same area is to be drilled from outside for the completion of the installation of the duct.
- Place the hood in its final spot and with the help of a screw driver, screw it up tightly. You will need at least two people for this to make sure that the hood is situated in the exact place as it should be.
- It’s time to install the duct. Before you do this, tape the ducts to secure it and for prevention of leakage in future. Pass the duct through the previously drilled hole and connect it to the hood. Make sure that the ducts are properly fitted.
- Caution. We are about to put the electrical connections in place and install the fan, filter and light bulb that we had removed from the hood in step 1. When done check if the connections are working properly by turning on the power switch.
Hopefully you have succeeded in installing the kitchen ventilation system. The procedure is the same for a commercial kitchen ventilation system. There maybe some extra wiring required as commercial ventilation is large scale owing to bigger kitchen size. Do not forget to wear your goggles and gloves before you begin.
